AHA RETREATS, WORKSHOPS & SEMINARS
What participants have said about our workshops:
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE NO LONGER OFFERING A REGULAR SCHEDULE OF WORKSHOPS. The exceptions to this rule are our residential workshops (see below) which can be booked directly. Workshops need at least five people to run, so once sufficient interest has been registered we will contact you again
Details Cost: The full price is £349pp until March 2009, then £359, which includes all meals and shared accommodation. (Partners not participating in the retreat can book at £99pp which includes sharing a room with you, and all meals.) Depending on availability, we can guarantee a single room for a supplement of £79. Depending on availability, we can accept non-residents, at a cost of £249, which includes lunch each day. A £100 deposit is payable on booking (see below for more details). AHA members receive a £20 discount (excluding partner bookings). There are no other concessions. We can provide support information for you if you are applying elsewhere for funding, so please email us. It's always worth looking at your local authority or development agency, and sometimes even Arts Council, for funding support.
Where: Bellever Youth Hostel, Postbridge, Dartmoor, except as noted.
Dates: Retreats will begin at 3pm on what is usually (but not always) a Thursday, and end by 4pm on the last day, which is usually a Sunday.
Getting there: we can arrange transportation from Exeter St. David's railway station, as long as we have prior notice. It is also possible to fly into Exeter Airport, but you must find your own way to Exeter St. David's (by bus) where we will pick you up by prior arrangement. If you must fly, consider offsetting your carbon emissions (although we think this is not a solution to the significant environmental impact of flying). If you're driving, get directions here. There is parking available at the hostel, with overflow parking nearby. Unfortunately public transport is very limited, even in summer. About: the accommodation is hostel-style, and you will be sharing a room. If you come with a partner, you may share with your partner (single beds). If you wish to be in a room on your own, you can pay a supplement of £79, but there is a limited number of such places available.) Prices include all accommodation, food, tuition fees, and equipment use. There may be a very small additional cost for the materials you use. All food is cooked on the premises, and much of it is sourced locally - Bellever is known for its food, and Hostel Manager Garry Hayman is a trained chef. More information here about the hostel facilities. See sample lunch or dinner menu. Numbers: participant numbers are strictly limited to a number appropriate to the particular workshop, and so that the group is not too large and too disruptive to the places we will visit. We will book places in the order we receive them, and we cannot hold a place until we have received your deposit. See Booking below for more information. There is also a limit on the number of partners we can accommodate, so please book early if you are planning to come with your partner or family. Where: Bellever Youth Hostel is located on high Dartmoor, on the edge of Bellever Forest, and near Postbridge village (famous for its 13thC clapper bridge, one of the largest remaining clapper bridges). This is one of the most beautiful and wild parts of Dartmoor, with lots to visit nearby and within easy reach. Partners can spend the day out and about, while we get on with the business.

AHA workshops from January 2008 Aune Head Arts will no longer be offering a calendar of pre-arranged workshops. However, if you are interested in one of our workshops, and have a group of between five and fifteen people, please contact us and let us know so that we can arrange a date and time suitable for you. A list of sample workshops can be found directly below, and we can work with you to design a workshop to suit your specific needs. We can also arrange specialist workshops in such areas as printmaking, bookbinding, writing, etc., although the cost may be different from that shown below. If you don't have a group, but would like to register your interest in a particular workshop, please submit this form. We will keep the information on file until there is a small group of people showing interest in a particular workshop, in which case we contact you and see if a mutually agreeable date can be arranged. Workshops typically run from 10am to 4pm, and include lunch. They are usually held at Bellever Youth Hostel, although it may be possible to arrange a workshop at your venue or one closer to your group. Please contact us. The cost per person is £50, with a minimum daily charge of £450, which includes lunch. If arranged in a venue other than Bellever, this cost may vary.
About our day workshops All workshops run from 10am to 4pm (except where noted), with a break for lunch, which is included. Except where noted, workshops take place in our Digital Shed, located at Bellever Youth Hostel, nr. Postbridge on Dartmoor (PL20 6TU) (OS Explorer OL28: SX654773). This is a beautiful rural location that gets you away from the hustle and hassle of the city. All our workshops are designed around the participants, so you can be assured that you will come away with the information you need, and all our workshops are taught by artists for artists.
