If you're working on a project and need to get away from life so that you (and your team) can concentrate on what you're going, then come to the AHA Digital Shed. We have a number of packages allowing you dedicated access to the studio, a room at the Hostel, lovely local food cooked on site, and as much downtime as you like in the wonderful surroundings of high Dartmoor. The Digital Shed is located at one of the most beautiful and tranquil places on Dartmoor, and is an idyllic place to work if you need some concentrated quiet time.

The rates shown in the brochure assume that you already know how to use this kind of studio, at least in principle (we do provide an orientation session to ensure that you are comfortable with the setup). We can provide limited introductory training (no more than half an hour) to orient you to the studio, but otherwise you are on your own, with some support at the end of a telephone.

We are adjacent to Bellever Youth Hostel (get directions). We are approximately an hour from Exeter, and about forty minutes from Plymouth or Totnes, each of which has a mainline station. There is a limited bus service, and there is also parking at the hostel, or nearby when the hostel car park is full (go here for more information). Because of its location, there is some limitation on how much noise you can make, so if you're planning to mix a rock album, go elsewhere! For most mixing purposes, however, the limited sound proofing should allow you to do what you want to do without disturbing the neighbours.

The studio is set up for editing video around the Final Cut Studio suite (Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Soundtrack Pro, etc.) It is possible to edit HD, although we do not yet have HD monitoring or HD source decks (upgrade due in 2008). The studio include a DV source deck, so you do not need to bring your own camera. The studio is based around a 3-monitor setup, with a separate video monitor, and Genelec audio monitors. It is a STEREO studio, although it possible to arrange 5.1 SURROUND mixing if you require it. For a detailed spec, go here. |
If you are working with audio, Logic Pro is available, with Soundtrack Pro used as a secondary programme. If you want to use ProTools, this can be arranged, although we are not primarily setup for ProTools (at the moment). There is a fully-weighted 88-key hammer action keyboard, and isolation dividers so that you can do voiceovers or simple recording. The studio however is not setup as a full recording studio, but is primarily an edit suite.
