Bridget says:
There are two main strands to my practice, one is studio based and one is work made in response to place. I use drawing, sculpture, photography and moving image in conjunction with the study of historical, critical and literary texts to aid my research and sustain my practice.
Key areas of interest in my practice are an investigation into the act of looking, the process of re interpretation and the organisation of information. There is something fascinating to me about the leap of imagination that a map-reader undergoes in order to understand a three dimensional environment from a set of symbols on a piece of paper. I am interested in how landscape has been historically represented and the selection processes involved in representing a place. Knowing the influence that landscape painting and ‘the picturesque’ has on attitudes towards landscape forms a foundation from which I examine the composition, representation and presentation of landscape.

About: I was born in Voorburg, Netherlands, but I spent my childhood in Kent, England. I chose to study in the north of England gaining my honours degree in fine art from Newcastle University in 1992. In 1995 I moved to a small village in the south west of Northumberland, it is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has influenced my work a great deal. It took me longer than most to come round to the idea of studying at masters level but, in 2005, I took up a place on the MFA programme at Glasgow School of Art from which I emerged in June 2007. I continue to live and work in Allenheads, Northumberland
