We believe that everyone is capable of creative expression; that artists can work with a broad spectrum of individuals without compromising artistically or aesthetically; that contemporary artforms can be stimulating, challenging, and engaging for all. Read more about what we say about the arts.

wordquest devonprizes

We are creating a map which will feature information about Devon and its writers, old and new. Your answers to the survey questions will help ensure no one is missed out. Words as prose, poem, fiction, non-fiction; historic, fanciful, humorous, frightening –– we want to map the full range of known and hidden talent Devon can offer.

Thank you to everyone who filled out our recent survey. We will be drawing winners from all those who entered the prize draw in the next couple of weeks. You will hear from us soon if you are a winner!

wordquest Devon is being developed by Devon Libraries, the University of Exeter, Cyprus Well, Aune Head Arts, and a number of other partners. Find out more here.

immersion

One of our new projects for 2010 is Immersion, led by creative producer Alex Murdin, and working in partnership with the National Marine Aquarium. We are delighted that Arts Council England has chosen to invest £30K in this project through Grants for the Arts. We hope to begin running the project in April 2010.

We plan to launch two other major projects in 2010. Watch this space for more info.

Mining Landscape

The exhibition at the Tamar Valley AONB is now closed, but other exhibition dates will be announced here soon.

A trailer for Tanya and Paul's Mining Landscape video is now online, from their work in the Tamar Valley, and there are lots of images from the project on our Flickr site. You can also see animations made by pupils at Bere Alston Primary School as part of the project. Copies of the Mining Landscape book, which comes with a DVD of the complete film, can be purchased for £15 by emailing us.

Laura Smith's MINE IS YOURS project is now live. This project was made in association with The Heartlands Project in the Pool/Camborne area of Cornwall, and you can also visit MINE IS YOURS 2, which is still in progress.

soudings

Part of the REACH arts and health initiative, this project recently completed its first phase, in Milton Abbot, with Sue Palmer as lead artist, working closely with Kate Green from Villages in Action. Read more here. We are now working in Princetown.

drakes trail podcasts

Drake's Trail launched to the public on March 5th 2009. Download the podcasts here. There is a special walk/event open to all on July 27, leaving at 11am. Download the information here.

Drake's Trail, a series of walking and cycling spurs in West Devon, was recently listed in Lonely Planet Magazine as one of ten best national "trips for a memorable Spring". The Guardian (Saturday, May 9) also explained how fantastic the trails are, but noted that "it's the podcasts that bring the area to life." And this is one family's blog from the trailhead...

We were commissioned by West Devon Borough Council to create these 22 podcasts, and worked with artist Martin Prothero and students from Tavistock College.

AHA is now listed in The Ashden Directory which is a lively and interesting website centring on Arts & Environment. Although we don't maintain a Links page on this site (for reasons of practicability) we will from time to time mention sites of interest here.

We'd like to say thank you to all our funders. They are acknowledged on the appropriate project pages, and here.

We have been funded for a three-year programme of work by Arts Council England, and we thank them for their continuing support of our work.
