Volkardt says:

“For a number of years my work has been driven by my interest in the politics of land use and ownership, and how they contribute to the shaping of our society. Spending time on Dartmoor I identified a number of related themes which informed my work for Triparks. Working alongside Chris Stacey, who provided the turf for the Swinedown Walk, gave me insight into how much mileage this modern Dartmoor farmer covers between his home, his land and his livestock. The idea of establishing a connection with one of the region’s largest urban centres (which has played a long and ongoing part in shaping the moor) became increasingly important during my residency. Thank you to farmer Chris Stacey for sharing his worklife with me and enthusiastically supporting the exhibition of his turf on Armada Way, Jay Wright who assisted me in bad weather conditions both building and documenting Square I, Jo Rumble and her colleagues at Dartmoor National Park Authority for showing me around the moor patiently. Thank you to all the volunteers who contributed hard work and smiles in making the Swinedown Walk happen and to Simon Persighetti for helping to repatriate the turf. Special thanks to Tim Dollimore who has worked beyond the call of duty on the video documentation of this work and for the support of Patrick Knight of the City Centre Management Company, Plymouth.”
