mining landscape

mine is yours

Mine is Yours II has found its feet via a previous work, Mine is Yours created over the course of a six month residency at the Heartlands Project in Pool, Cornwall. Both were commissioned through Aune Head ArtsMining Landscape project that has seen artists and oral historians exploring the mining heritage of the South West from the Tamar Valley to Pool, Cornwall.

Mine is Yours II began as an exploration of Cornish heritage and the customs and traditions that are specific to Cornwall, of which there are many. From these many, six were selected that it was thought truly reflected Cornish values and the significance that such traditions have within communities, and in some cases are sadly being overlooked or forgotten. These were Cornish Wrestling, Withy Pot Making, Cornish Hurling, the Stargazey Pie, Knitting and Drop Spinning, and the Cornish language.

The project aimed to reinvestigate these traditions via community engagement and participation in an active and involved transferral of skills or knowledge in which local ‘experts’ in the various traditions met with community groups and created informal workshops, discussions and opportunities for sharing and learning.

The audio recordings (Cornish Wrestling, Withy Pot Making, Cornish Hurling, the Stargazey Pie, Knitting and Drop Spinning, and the Cornish language) of these workshops were then edited for radio and internet to be available internationally as well as locally. They have been mapped here geographically because in many cases their location is of significance to the life of the tradition and its sustainability.
